Roman and Andrea married at Castell de Lloret, in Lloret de Mar, with 30 guests, and we handled the sound and lighting. The ceremony was held outdoors at sunset, and the place stayed comfortable even in summer — you feel the sea breeze across the grounds. Outdoors, sound spreads differently than it does in a room, because there are no walls to send a voice back; the spoken word then depends on how close the speakers are to the audience rather than on volume.
The venue has its quirks. When we loaded in there, vehicle access closed at ten in the morning; after that the road was shut and there was no getting onto the grounds. Over the last 30 metres up to the castle everything had to go by hand, up a slope of about 30 degrees — worth knowing when you plan the load-in.
We ran into trouble with the wireless systems on site: even the Shure ULXD units glitched and needed re-tuning as we worked. Next time we'll bring a spectrum analyser, which shows what frequencies are busy at a location so clear channels can be picked before rigging starts.
